Fully Vaccinated Travelers Can Visit South Korea Starting July 2021

South Korea is slowly getting back into normalcy as they are now in the Low Level of COVID-19. Part of the government’s efforts to revive the travel and tourism industry is by allowing fully vaccinated citizens to travel overseas and welcome more visitors. They are also removing the mandatory two-week quarantine for those who received their vaccine shots outside of South Korea.

Reviving the Travel and Tourism Industry

“Starting in July, we plan to allow group travel of fully vaccinated people through consultations between nations with stable antivirus conditions,” Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum announced on a daily interagency COVID response meeting.” He adds that resuming overseas travel is a sign that they are returning to normalcy after a year into the pandemic.

Travel Requirements to South Korea

Aside from being fully vaccinated, foreign travelers will soon need to apply for a Korean Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA). According to the Ministry of Justice, “The K-ETA application allows visitors from the 112 previously visa-free countries to receive access to travel by submitting personal and travel-related information on the K-ETA website or mobile app prior to boarding.”

K-ETA Application

The application process is currently under a trial run from May 3 to August 31, which means it is not yet mandatory. Visitors are still highly encouraged to apply during the trial period since the 10,000 won fee is waived and the K-ETA is valid for 2 years from the date of authorization. For now, the applications are limited to 21 countries and business-related travelers from visa-free countries.

The Korean Disease and Prevention Agency (KDCA) reports that more than 11.8 million have received their first dose of vaccine. As they continue to ramp up the pace of inoculations, the government is also discussing how they’ll promote “travel bubbles.” Wearing a mask and staying 6 feet apart from others is still required in the country and violators will be fined.
