Condé Nast Traveler readers awarded Siargao as one of the best island destinations in the world. It was included in the Top Islands in Asia category of the 2021 Readers’ Choice Award, scoring 97.77. The luxury and lifestyle travel magazine likens the country’s surfing capital to Bali, with its pristine white beaches and lush mangrove forest.
Reviving the Local Tourism Industry
Being recognized as one of Asia’s top tourist attractions is a major accomplishment for the Department of Tourism. It’s a testament to the tourist industry’s efforts during the pandemic, and Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat couldn’t be more grateful.
“We have worked to strengthen our position as a top-of-mind destination around the globe while ensuring that health and safety protocols across our destinations are implemented and observed,” Puyat remarked. “This recognition bodes well for the recovery of the country’s tourism industry and our latest global campaign ‘More Fun Awaits,’ which showcases the DOT’s preparations for international leisure travel once the restrictions are lifted,” she added.

Other local islands that made it on the list are Palawan in third and Boracay in the eighth position. They scored 97.54 and 93.26, respectively.
