Heads up, wandering workers: you’d still be technically working, but it’s still a real deal!

Want to fill your craving for wanderlust after being cooped up for too long? Here’s your ticket out — hospitality marketplace Airbnb is looking for 12 individuals who are interested to live in an accommodation listed on their site for a full year, with all their expenses already paid for!

The “Live Anywhere on Airbnb” program is specifically scouting for digital nomads to help the marketplace better understand the nomadic, remote-working, social-distancing citizens of the world. If you’re a creative, an empty nester, a young family, or a habitual staycationer, then you’re most welcome to apply.

“Whether it’s joining Zoom meetings by the beach, taking family on the ultimate road trip, or learning a new language in a favourite city — participants can make the world their home for a year,” writes Airbnb on the program’s landing page.

Airbnb will provide allowances for accommodation up to the value of $48,000 (about P2.3 million), as well as for transportation expenses up to $12,000 (about P580,000) for the duration of the program from July 2021 to July 2022. Chosen participants can also bring along up to three companions each.

So what does Airbnb expect to get in return? In exchange for living in their place of choice for a year, participants are asked to provide feedback on experiences, resources, and product changes through weekly recorded check-ins. These insights then help Airbnb “shape the future of flexible living” by getting a better grasp of the nomadic lifestyle in a post-pandemic world.

According to the Airbnb Report on Travel & Living, the share of long-term stays, or those which last for at least 28 days — on the platform increased by 10 percent in bookings during the first quarter of 2021 when compared to the same period in 2019. 11 percent of those long-term stay bookers in 2021 reported living a nomadic lifestyle, while 74 percent of bookers across five countries — France, Mexico, Australia, United Kingdom, and the United States — in the same period expressed interest in living someplace other than where their employer is based after the pandemic is over.

Asia proves to be the most endearing spot for digital nomads, with Indonesia and Thailand gearing to be the top refuge for remote workers. In Barbados, they have introduced a “welcome stamp” for digital nomads who want to carve a workplace somewhere in the Caribbean Island for up to a year. Meanwhile, in Estonia, they have also commenced granting “digital nomad visas.”

Indeed, the future is bright for wandering workers. Interested? you have until June 30 to apply through this link.
