Nearly two years into the pandemic and the global tourism industry has yet to recover from its losses. Simply put, a lot of people are still hesitant to travel overseas for leisure purposes.

However, unlike last year, more people have ventured out abroad in 2021. While travel restrictions vary per country, a common denominator among most destinations, including the Philippines, is travel-mandated quarantine.

As per Philippine Airlines, as of December 24, people arriving in the Philippines have to quarantine themselves for a couple of days, depending on where their country of origin falls under in the official risk classification list. This can be as quick as three days or as long as 10 days.

If you’re one of those returning travelers or travelers venturing overseas, what do you do in your hotel room? Here are some activities you can try so you won’t get too bored:

Get quarantine with bodyweight exercises

While you can’t go to the hotel gym to lift some weights or use their equipment, you can get in a good workout right in your hotel room. There are a lot of exercise tutorial videos online you can follow along if you don’t know how to start.

Read a book

Being stuck in a hotel room or quarantine facility is the best time to catch up on some reading. You can buy a new title or reread an old favorite. If you’re a fast reader, you can even opt to bring more than one book along with you.

Listen to podcasts

While tuning into some music is always a good idea, listening to podcasts can be more engaging. You can learn something new in the process, too. Just choose a topic/s that tickles your fancy, and you’re good to go.

Catch up with other people

Fight off boredom by talking to other people online. Being cut off from the world can get to anyone, and chatting with a friend or a family member can be quite comforting.

Enroll in a short course

For you to feel some sense of achievement during your isolation period, you can try enrolling in a short course. There are a lot of free and paid options on the web for you to try. What’s great about this activity is that you can enrich yourself professionally or personally at the same time.

By trying some of these activities, you won’t feel so bored while in quarantine. You might even learn a thing or two in the process. Your mandatory me-time is the perfect time to work on yourself. Basically, your travel-mandated quarantine is what you make of it.
