Miss getting stoked on the awesome waves of La Union or do you simply miss chilling by its gorgeous beaches? Well, good news! La Union, which is also known as the surfing capital of the Philippines, has opened its borders to local tourists to revive its economy.

Before you jump into your car and drive out to El Yu, there are a couple of things you should take note of. As per La Union Governor Francisco Emmanuel Ortega III, La Union will accommodate a total of 700 tourists only per day. Children younger than 15 years old and adults older than 65 years old will not be allowed to enter the province as well, so you should think twice before inviting the little ones and the seniors along with you.

To add to these, tourists are required to present negative results from reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests which should be taken three days prior to their visit. Not all establishments will be open as well. Only those with Department of Tourism-issued certificates will be allowed to accommodate tourists, and everyone is mandated to follow health protocols at all times.

As of now, the only town that is reportedly under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) is Bauang while the rest of the province has now been placed under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ). That means a little bit more freedom for you to go out and about.
Given that you’ve waited for more than a year to get back on a surfboard, those guidelines shouldn’t be too much of a nuisance. In case you need to get your hands on some RT-PCR tests without heading to a hospital, you can check out the list here. These are minor sacrifices compared to everything that’s at stake. After all, you gotta do your part to help the country bounce back, right?
