The 5 Different Personality Tests You Should Take in Your Lifetime

Are you obsessed with taking personality tests?

Well, even if you aren’t, it’s always good to know a little more about yourself for future reference. Personality tests can be great ways to reflect on the things that make you, you; they can tell what kind of employee, lover, friend, daughter or son you are and can be, which in turn, gives you opportunities for understanding and improvement.

As an added bonus, they can also help you learn more about the people around you! While there are tons of personality tests that you can take out there, here are our top five picks that we think you should take ASAP.

Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

Often touted as the “most accurate” and/or “all-encompassing” personality test, the MBTI is probably one of the most popular personality measures out there. Its main goal is to assign personality traits to individuals through these four categories: introversion or extraversion, sensing or intuition, thinking or feeling, judging or perceiving. The results then lead to 16 different personality types where a person can also view in-depth their strengths and weaknesses.

For example, an “ENFP” is a person who is extraverted and intuitive, and more into feeling and perceiving.

If you need to know what kind of employee you are in the workplace, this is the test for you. DiSC uses four personality reference points (Dominance, influence, Steadiness and Conscientiousness) to analyze how we express emotions. Each reference point will help give insight as to how we act in relationships and collaborations with other people.

In particular, if you rank high in dominance, it means that you “actively [use] force to overcome resistance in the environment.”

Big Five

Widely considered to be the most scientifically valid personality test, the Big Five measures your traits and predicts behavior through a list of factors, namely: openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism, each on a continuous scale. Each factor (which can be remembered through the acronym OCEAN) then correlates with another set of more specific traits.

If you, say, rank high in extraversion, it’s likely that you are also an assertive or positive person.

True Colors

Ever thought of using colors to measure your personality? The True Colors test does just that. Similar to the MBTI test, True Colors states that a person’s personality is a mix of the four given colors (gold, green, blue, and orange), and that one of these colors are the dominant personality traits that a person carries.

Orange, for example, connotates action, adventure, and excitement. Primary orange personality types are spontaneous, fun-loving, and independent.

Enneagram

The Enneagram test, while not largely recognized in scientific circles, is a personality test that has steadily grown in popularity. It’s a typology system that helps to identify personalities through nine interconnected personality types, made visible on a nine-pointed diagram. Each point represents a personality type (“achiever”, “peacemaker”, “challenger”, etc.), which then leads into subtypes that are called “wings.”

For instance, you could be a type 9, or “peacemaker.” These types usually have type 1s and 8s as “wings,” which mean that your personality can carry traits from either types.
