What to Expect From the iOS 14.5 Update

Apple rolled out iOS 14.5 for their devices and it has exciting features we can’t wait to use. The update includes new phone unlocking capabilities, diverse Siri voices, advanced privacy controls, and more emojis, among others. It builds on the recently enhanced iOS 14 and is available as a free software update.

Face ID Alternative

Face ID is a cool feature to have until you can’t unlock your phone when wearing a face mask. “With Apple Watch on the wrist, unlocked, and in close proximity to iPhone, users can simply glance at their iPhone and they will receive haptic feedback from Apple Watch, indicating their iPhone has been unlocked.” It’s compatible with the iPhone X and later and Apple Watch Series 3 and later.

Hello, New Siri

iOS 14.5 no longer has a default Siri voice and gives users diverse voice options. Thanks to the Neutral Text to Speech technology, the new Siri voices sound more natural. This is part of Apple’s commitment to being more diverse and inclusive. Other things the updated Siri is capable of include initiating Group FaceTime, announcing incoming calls, and calling emergency contacts.

App Tracking Transparency

“App Tracking Transparency requires apps to get the user’s permission before tracking their data across apps or websites owned by other companies for advertising or sharing their data with data brokers.” This ensures the user’s privacy and security by prompting their permission regarding which apps can track their data. Changes can be made in the Settings menu at any time.

More Emojis

Some of the new emojis you’ll find in the iOS 14.5 update are the couple kissing emoji and the couple with heart emoji. It’s more inclusive and users can select different skin tones and genders. Not only that, but they also have new characters for face exhaling, face with spiral eyes, face in clouds, hearts on fire, mending heart, and woman with a beard.
