How To Take Brain Breaks When You Work From Home

Working from home can make relaxing trickier than usual.

This article is for all the remote workers out there who don’t know how to take proper brain breaks.

Working from home sounds like a dream. How else can you describe getting paid to do your job from the comfort of your own home? Regardless of what you do for a living, you should have an easier time at work since you don’t have to go to the office. Right?

Well, yes and no. Many people need clear boundaries between their personal and professional lives. In fact, they relish going to the office and leaving work behind once they go home.

Whether you’re one of those people or not, the fact is you need a break once in a while. Especially if you’re a remote worker. Going to the bathroom or making coffee doesn’t count as a break. After all, the point of a break is to give your brain a chance to refresh!

Here are some helpful ways to get your brain to take a break:

Keep it ‘clean’

When you take brain breaks, make sure they’re clean. Try not to think about your to-do list when you step away from your workstation. Turn off work-related notifications. Turn them back on only when you’re ready to resume working.

Go outside

If you live in an apartment or condominium, go on your balcony or to your building’s common area. Enjoy your surroundings. A quick walk will make you more able to complete your tasks.

Meditate

You can find a lot of meditation apps or videos on platforms like Spotify and YouTube. They’ll go a long way towards helping you take your mind off work. Pick one, put on your earphones, and follow the guide!

Play with a pet

If you have a cat or dog, playing with them will give you endorphins and help you focus on one thing. Also, your pet will get extra time with you during the day. It’s a win-win solution as far as brain breaks go.

Take a deep breath

Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Inhale, hold your breath for a bit, and exhale slowly. Exhale anxiety and stress. Inhale peace, positivity, and relaxation.

Brain breaks rock

While it can be tempting to just push forward and work through stress, taking a break actually yields many benefits. Taking just a couple of minutes from your work-from-home situation to give yourself a break will definitely go a long way.
