In case you haven’t noticed, Y2K fashion is back with a vengeance. Celebrities from all different walks of life have opened up their closets and pulled out the best of the ‘00s.
And while it can be a bit scary to see those old clothes come back to life, millennials and Gen Z have been finding ways to creatively revamp the Y2K style. Here are a couple of throwback items from the new millennium.
Baguette bag
It was small, it was cute, and it was trendy! We’d see this kind of bag on celebs like Paris Hilton and Sarah Jessica Parker, but nowadays, equally big names like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid are rocking the tiny purse on the daily.
Belly chains
Admittedly, belly chains were kind of sexy back then because they showed off the wearer’s toned stomach. And also because Beyoncé wore them. Now, their purpose hasn’t changed much as they still do show off celebs’ abs and svelte physiques.
Trucker hats
Did anyone actually miss Von Dutch caps? They were all the rage in the Y2K era, as we’ve seen from many Britney Spears paparazzi pics. Now, it seems like they’re making a pretty strong comeback, with the likes of Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa leading the movement.
Cargo pants
Ahhh, the cargo pants. What was once an embarrassing 2000s style staple is now an uber cool addition to anyone’s wardrobe. From Avril Lavigne’s iconic “Sk8er Boi” era camo cargos, to Rihanna’s modern-day black bottoms, we’re guessing that these pants will never go out of style.
Pleated skirts
Pleated skirts will probably always look cute. Back in the day, we saw these tiny little numbers in legendary teen movies like Mean Girls. In 2021, Regina George would be proud to see that the skirts are still finding their way to new teen queens like Olivia Rodrigo.
