International Stage

Kennedy is a student at the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) taking the course BS Fashion and Textile Technology, major in Fashion Design. His department at CLSU congratulated him on this big opportunity that will showcase his talent to the world.

“Warmest support and congrats to Mr. Kennedy Jhon T. Gasper from [the] Department of Textile and Garment Technology Family. We are happy to announce that our 3rd year student of BSFTT-FD has [been] given a big role as national costume designer [for] one of the candidates of Miss Universe 2021.”

Kennedy has uploaded photos of his designs on Instagram but revealed in an interview that none of them include what he made for Miss Universe Cameroon. He also revealed that they were able to make the costume in just four days. “Medyo mahirap po siya gawin pero sa tulong ng mga kaibigan ko at saka [ng] co-designer ko, nagawa naman po namin iyon nang maayos sa apat na araw lang,” he said.

Big love story

Angèle Kossinda posted about the overwhelming support she’s received from Filipinos and the reason why she chose Kennedy as her designer.

“Indeed a national costume represents your [country’s] legacy, culture and image. And to me the most important thing is to find someone who could best represent it in an outfit or costume no matter your origins–this is what we learn from beauty pageants: inclusion, tolerance, unity! So yes, a Filipino designer has made my national costume @kennedy_gasper.”

She also mentioned that there’s a “big love story” between her and the Philippines and that there are other Filipinos who also helped her in the pageant.

“We have to remember that he is a very young talented man who also deserves this opportunity. There’s a big love story between the Philippines, Filipino fans, and me ❤️ and that is since 2017. Be aware my gowns as well are made by [a] Filipino–I have been trained and mentored by [a] Filipino, too.”
