Ariana Grande—who said she grew up watching 13 Going On 30 “every night before bed”—paid homage to the movie (again) by wearing the same colorful minidress Jenna Rink wore in the thriller dance scene.
The “No Tears Left to Cry” singer also wore dangling earrings, Y2K-inspired makeup, and an updo similar to Jenna Rink’s to finish the look.
Ariana wore the striped dress during the first live show of The Voice this season. Before the new episode aired, she posted a photo of her outfit and thanked Donatella Versace for the dress, which was actually part of the Versace Spring 2003 Ready-to-Wear Collection.
“Thank you so so so so much [Donatella Versace,] [Versace] and happy first live show,” Ariana posted on Instagram Stories.
If you’ve seen Ariana’s “Thank U, Next” music video, you may have noticed that this isn’t the first time she wore an outfit inspired by 13 Going on 30.
In the music video, she recreated the scene where 30-year-old Jenna carried the dollhouse Matty made for her 13th birthday right after saying goodbye before his wedding.
Jennifer Garner, who played the role of adult Jenna in the movie, shared a clip from the music video on Instagram, saying, “Every now and then something comes along and just brightens your day. 💫 [Ariana Grande,] you’re adorable. Thank you, pretty girl.”
Ariana replied, “I watched this movie every night before bed growing up (and I still do sometimes, especially when I’m sad). I adore you! Thank you for all the inspiration and joy you’ve brought to my life.”
