From Mickey Mouse to One Piece, Gucci really knows who to work with to get our nostalgia going.

If you’re a strange cross between a lover of luxury wear and a fan of classic Anime characters, then you’ve hit the jackpot: Italian fashion house Gucci has brought in the beloved cat-robot Doraemon for a capsule collection that commemorates the Anime icon’s 50th anniversary.

From jackets to coats, to sunglasses and smartphone cases, the adorable robo-cat’s facade is fused with Gucci’s classic monogram pattern in flamboyant prints or subtle accents.

The quirky collaboration was first announced during Gucci’s 12-hour-long live-stream of the 2021 Resort Wear Epilogue collection fashion show last July. This Tuesday, the capsule officially came out, with pre-orders first rolling out of Gucci’s Hong Kong store. Gucci announced that more Doraemon designs will be released, this time connected with the Chinese Year of the Ox, in time for the start of Chinese New Year festivities.

Willing to cop the collection? Pre-orders are currently open via the Gucci Hong Kong online store, with prices ranging from $200 up to $5,800 (P9,600 – 280,000).

Gucci seems to have an affinity with animated icons. Before Doraemon, Gucci also tapped Mickey Mouse last January 2020 to likewise commemorate last year’s Chinese New Year, and then worked with manga artist Eiichiro Oda last September to create their Fake/Not collection featuring One Piece characters.
