Just like in 2020, Nike dominated the “Top-selling Athletic Sneakers for 2021” list released by NPD’s Vice President and Senior Industry Advisor, Matt Powell. Nike and the Nike-owned Air Jordan brand took eight out of ten spots, while Adidas and Brooks took one spot each in the annual list.
Nike’s Air Max 270 took the number one spot, followed by the Air Force 1 ’07 Low, Air Max Excee, Air Max 90, and Revolution 5. Meanwhile, the Adidas NMD R1 took the sixth spot, followed by the Jordan I Mid, Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21, Court Vision Low, and Air Vapormax Plus.
The report noted that although the brand had the top-selling sneakers for the year, it “underperformed the market in 2021, ceding share to others, including Puma and Reebok.”
The “Top-selling Athletic Sneakers for 2020” list from NPD also included nine shoes from the Nike family and only one from Adidas. Nike’s Air Force 1 Low topped the list, followed by the Air Max 270, Air Vapormax Plus, Air Max 97, Revolution 5, and Air Max 90. The Adidas NMD R1 was in the seventh spot, followed by the Air Vapormax Flyknit 3, Jordan I High OG, and Jordan XIII.
