Food-inspired bags are not new as trendsetters have come to love styles like the Christian Dior Baguette and the Bottega Veneta Dumpling. And once again, Food and Fashion intertwine with Longchamp’s Brioche Bag coming out this March that’s part of their Spring/Summer 2021 collection.
The bag first made its debut at the Maison Plisson, a neighborhood deli situated in Paris, instead of the usual New York City runway. It’s soft, quilted, and made out of leather – reminiscent of the buttery French bun. Artistic Director of Longchamp, Sophie Delafontaine, describes it as, “Light and delicate with a gentle puff,” and will come in 2 sizes and 4 different colors: Shiny Mint, White, Red, or Black, all with silver hardware.
Embodying the Parisian woman, the Brioche is simple yet classy. This purse is fit for any time of the day or for any occasion. Style it however you want, adjusting the chain strap to wear it on the shoulder for an office look, as a crossbody on casual days while running errands, or clutched under your arm at a formal event. Don’t be deceived by the compact size because it’s spacious enough to hold all your essential items all while looking chic.
A Closer Look
The boxy structure with vertical lines appeals to be modern while keeping in mind the brand’s leatherworking heritage through the tone-on-tone stitching. Adding to the feminine touch is the over-extending flap that feels luxurious, especially in combination with the metal-rimmed, leather-covered clasp that blends in seamlessly. You won’t even feel the chain strap digging into your shoulder because of the comfortable padding attached.
Longchamp’s Brioche will easily fit in your collection of everyday bags and might be your next go-to brunch accessory. Retailing at $895 or about P43,000, it’s not a bad investment considering the brand’s reputation for high-quality bags, one of them being the classic Le Pliage tote.
