Why Nicki Minaj Skipped the 2021 Met Gala

Rapper Nicki Minaj was not in attendance at the 2021 Met Gala, and it’s not because of the vaccination requirement.

Due to the current situation, all attendees of this year’s Met Gala were required to show proof of vaccination. Nicki Minaj has not yet been inoculated, but that’s not why she skipped the annual event in New York. It turns out she had recently contracted the virus and was just being precautious.

Nicki Minaj reveals she got COVID

Some fans were dismayed the rapper has not made public appearances for a while, to which Nicki quickly responded. “I have an infant with no nannies during COVID. Not risking his health to be seen.”

In another reply, Nicki wrote, “I was preparing for VMAs, then I shot a video and guess who got COVID? Do you know what it is [like] not to be able to kiss or hold your tiny baby for over a week?” She also mentions that Drake caught the virus despite being vaccinated.

Taking back the narrative

Mainstream media outlets misconstrued Nicki’s reason for not attending the 2021 Met Gala, and she’s tired of the lies.“I cited my young child as to why I didn’t want to travel. But notice how NONE of them mentioned that?” This is following her tweet on Monday where she said she won’t get vaccinated for the event’s sake.

To set the record straight, she recommends people get the vaccine. “I’m sure I’ll be vaccinated as well [because] I have to go on tour, etc.,” she said. In the meantime, she asks her fans to be safe and continue wearing masks.

The White House reported they are willing to get in touch with Nicki Minaj and discuss the safety and effectiveness of the coronavirus vaccine. She has accepted the offer and, in true fashion, will dress in all pink like Legally Blonde, “so they know I mean business.”
