Remember spending your coins on chocnut, bazooka bubble gum, or butterball candy? If only life were that simple again. Now you spend your money on adult things like bills and home décor and this Instagram shop sells scented candles that will make you feel nostalgic.
The Tamis ng Kahapon candle collection by SaliwPH will take you down memory lane. Everything from the scent down to the packaging is reminiscent of the times you spent playing outdoors with other kids, then stopping by a nearby tindahan – change in hand – to buy candy afterward. Aside from taking inspiration from your favorite childhood treats, the jar they use resembles the container (a.k.a. garapon) that’s used to store them. Talk about the attention to detail.
With every candle purchase from the collection comes a free postcard made by local artist, Monica Cabungal (@ikangcab) who also designed the labels for the candle jars. When you make a purchase from Saliwph, you hit two birds with one stone by supporting a small local business and a local artist. They even made a Spotify playlist that includes OPM from the 80s and 90s to set the mood.
The candles can be bought individually for P470 or as a set for P1,300. They sold out quickly after the launch but are open for pre-order through their website. And since it’s so in demand, they might expand the collection soon. Which 90s candy do you want them to turn into a candle scent next?
Their other set available is the Lakbay collection that features iconic places around the Philippines and the scents associated with the location. The Umaga sa Sagada, for example, smells of coffee beans and milk. They also have scents from Vigan, Binondo, Palawan, Makiling, and Baguio included in the set. All their candles are made with 100% soy wax and fragrance oils, so you don’t have to worry about harmful ingredients.
