Live out your Sailor Moon fantasies with this collection!
Otakus and sneakerheads freaked out when Vans dropped its new Sailor Moon-inspired collection. The iconic apparel company and anime/manga series by Naoko Takeuchi made a perfect pair. The latter’s tales of love, justice, and friendship inspired the collection. It includes a wide variety of accessories, apparel, and footwear.
For the uninitiated, Sailor Moon began as a manga series in 1991. A year later, Toei Animation produced an anime adaptation that ran until 1997. It lives on in a reboot—which, as of this writing, spans a new three-season anime and a two-part film. Another two-part film is set for release in 2023.
The series follows the titular character, whose civilian name is Usagi Tsukino. Usagi is an average schoolgirl who receives the power to transform into a Sailor Soldier. She and her friends, the Sailor Guardians, defend Earth against a series of villains.
The collection has something for everyone. It includes designs across the kid’s, men’s, and women’s categories.
The Vans x Sailor Moon shoes
First up is the Sk8-Hi Stacked. It infuses textiles with satin quarters. Its smooth leather overlays bear Sailor Moon’s brooch and bow. Its sidewall has a printed gradient design, translucent heels, and toe bumpers. A closer look at the latter reveals it has the Sailor Guardians’ planet symbols all over it.
Speaking of the Sailor Guardians, they appear on the Authentic, as does Tuxedo Mask. Their images are on the toebox. The La Costa Slide-On has a synthetic nubuck strap. It also features the Sailor Guardians.
Old Skool Patchwork features a unique patch print design that highlights the anime. If you prefer a subtler design, go for the Old Skool. It has a “Starry Night”-inspired design. The Sailor Guardians’ symbols are all over the upper. Finally, the ComfyCush Slip-On‘s upper features popular characters from the series.
The Vans x Sailor Moon accessories and apparel
The BFF Crew Fleece takes inspiration from Sailor Moon’s costume. This pullover crewneck sweatshirt has checkerboard details on one sleeve. Vans’ tagline “Off the Wall” is on the other. It’s made of a cozy cotton and polyester fleece blend.
