Airbnb Marks One Billion Guest Arrivals

Online accommodation platform Airbnb marked one billion guest arrivals in September 2021, thirteen years since the original Airbedandbreakfast.com website officially launched in 2008.

The billionth guest, Eva from Tübingen, Germany, got the ultimate traveler surprise: getting Airbnb credits to use for travels around the world for a year. She will receive $50,000 USD in Airbnb coupon credit which can be used anytime within 2022.

“Congratulations to Eva on being the billionth guest arrival! We look forward to connecting 1 billion more guests with hosts around the world to foster the sense of discovery, connection, and belonging that only travel can bring,” Airbnb’s news release read.

“I am thankful for the Airbnb community as it provides me with the opportunity to feel welcomed all over the world,” Eva said.

She also told future guests to “be happy and keep on exploring!”

Airbnb is used by hosts in over 220 countries and regions all over the world. The platform currently has over four million hosts who earn an average of $9,600 a year, based on a survey of global Airbnb Homes in May 2021.
