DOT Launches New Podumentary Titled ‘Escape: Stories From The Road’

Discover the country’s beauty in this new podcast.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has found a new way to showcase local destinations. They started a show called “Escape: Stories From The Road.”

This five-episode show is a “podumentary” or podcast-slash-documentary. It veered away from the usual Q&A format of a podcast to focus on storytelling. When they launched this show, the primary goal of the DOT was to encourage more people to check out the Philippines. They also hope to encourage people to engage in meaningful tourism. In other words, tourism that’s grounded in meaningful interactions.

Each episode also has a theme. For example, this season’s themes include adventure, food, identity, and music. Ethnomusicologist Dr. Felicidad Prudente will appear on the show. So will ex-Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat and National Artist Kidlat Tahimik.

Adrenaline junkies will love the pilot. It focuses on outdoor experiences in Camotes Island, Kalinga, and Nueva Vizcaya. Those who feel lost will be able to relate to the “identity” episode. It will take listeners to Baguio and Davao. They will hear about people who became great when they found their identities.

Another episode will focus on the part music plays in preserving history. Ex-Tourism Secretary Puyat will talk about food and farm tourism in the food episode. The show’s hosts are Aaron Palabyab, Cesca Litton, Kate Torralba, and Maureen Schrijvers.
