One of the most active places to go to in any day of the year is Cubao in Quezon City and while we thought that we may have found all the go-to hangout places in the busy streets of Cubao, there’s a hidden gem located in the heart of St. Mary Street.
Sine Pop is a 48-seat boutique cinema equipped with DCP projector, 7.1 surround sound system, and 7-meter screen. What sets them apart from other micro-cinemas in the Metro is the ambiance since they welcome a maximum of 6 guests at the newly restored classic house from 1948 and their bamboo garden.
The 1948 house in Cubao was built by a couple from Ilocos Norte, Sotero Pasion Eugenio, a Civil Engineer from Laoag City and his wife Lourdes Sabas Segui, a pharmacist from Batac City.
Their son Pedro Eugenio was also elated by how Sine Pop preserved the beauty of their former ancestral home.
“My family lived in this property for almost 70 years (until 2017), during which we tried to preserve its original beauty, as it was built by my parents. I have many wonderful and tender memories living there. I’m happy to see that it has been restored beautifully,” he said.
Currently, Sine Pop is screening Lav Diaz’s 4-hour epic, Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan, every Saturday at 1pm. Viewers will be enjoying drinks at the beautiful bamboo garden after watching the award-winning film.
Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and is among the Top 10 films of 2013 by Sight & Sound Magazine and Pulitzer Prize-winning critic Wesley Morris’s Top Film of 2014.
