Completing the list is the little known area called Shimokitazawa or Shimokita which is located just five minutes away by train from Shibuya. This laidback hip area is  home to vintage clothing, great coffee, and Japanese theater.

Shimokita is the perfect alternative to the other bustling areas in Tokyo as it has narrow streets dissuading drivers with a relaxed pedestrian feel, and plenty of great spots for people watching and strolling to your heart’s content. The district is divided into north and south by the station complex. The north side is mostly shops, and has a sophisticated-yet-edgy style. The south side has more bars and restaurants for more of a lively atmosphere.
