Beef Up Your Revenge Travel with BDO and AMEX’s Explorer Card

The launch of BDO AMEX Explorer Card is timely for the return of consumer confidence in travel

The world is still in a pandemic, but they say that the year 2023 is all about revenge travel. After all, countries have opened up their borders and travel restrictions have been eased up.

Now, frequent travelers are ready to rekindle what they have missed the most: exploring the world.

With that, BDO Unibank, Inc. and American Express (AMEX) have prepared for Filipino travelers who are ready to go around the world again as they launch the American Express® Explorer™ Credit Card, also known as the Explorer Card.

The BDO-AMEX Explorer Card allows cardmembers to earn American Express’ Membership Rewards points. These points never expire and are redeemable for air miles with a wide range of airlines.

Every 40 pesos spent by a cardmember entitles them to earn one Membership Rewards® point.

Cardmembers can then redeem each point for one air mile in six frequent flyer partners such as Mabuhay Miles, KrisFlyer, Cathay Membership, Royal Orchid Plus, Enrich, and Delta SkyMiles.

If not for air miles, cardmembers can also convert these points into hotel loyalty points from two partners: Marriot Bonvoy and Hilton Honors. These establishments have thousands of properties worldwide, including the Philippines.

The Explorer Card has one of the best rewards rates in the Philippines. There is also no conversion fee needed.

According to Rolando C. Tanchangco, BDO’s Senior Executive Vice President and Consumer Banking Group Head, they have seen a “substantial growth in travel-related spending” among their American Express cardmembers.

The launch of the Explorer credit card is timely considering now that “consumer confidence” in travelling has returned.

He says, “In 2022, airline ticket purchase alone has increased exponentially versus the previous year. With the return of consumer confidence in travel, the American Express Explorer Credit Card is a timely addition to our extensive line-up of credit card products with our partner American Express.”

Mr. Sanjiv Malhotra, American Express’ Vice President and General Manager, Global Network Services, SouthEast Asia and South Pacific, has also something to say about this milestone.

He says, “After three years of the pandemic and with borders reopening, travel is back. Our American Express Explorer Credit Card launched in partnership with BDO, gives our Cardmembers in the Philippines, whether they are travelling solo, with family or with friends, the ability to earn rewards and travel for less, while doing what they are passionate about.”

The Explorer Card partnership of American Express with BDO is a first in Southeast Asia.
