Universal Studios holds soft opening in new China park

Looks like there’s another must-visit you should head off to once it’s safe to travel again. Select visitors got to enjoy a sneak peek of Universal Studios’ first theme park in China last August 31, as the Beijing attraction had a soft opening, drawing queues from dawn.

As per PhilStarLife.com, some of the attractions guests can expect from the new amusement park include rides inspired by blockbuster film franchises including Harry Potter, Kung Fu Panda, and Jurassic World. Doesn’t that sound super fun?

Aside from these movie-inspired rides, the park promises guests water shows and close encounters with an animatronic dinosaur. Meanwhile, facial recognition cameras will allow visitors to open storage lockers, pay for their meals, and even join express queues for rides without using physical tickets.

The Beijing park marks as the fifth Universal Studios park outside of the United States. It was first announced in 2014 after receiving the green light from Chinese authorities. Since then, the city of Beijing has opened a dedicated subway station for the park.

Since the park’s opening date was announced, searches for the theme park on the popular Ctrip travel booking site soared more than 800 percent. This goes to show that the pandemic isn’t stopping people from enjoying the new theme park.

The park’s soft opening was open only to visitors holding special corporate invitations. As a safety precaution, they were required to declare they were not experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms and had to go through temperature cameras to enter.

The amusement park is slated to open to the public this September 20. While it’s not safe to book a ticket to go to the park yourself, it’s still something to look forward to in the long run.
