The Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Cinemalaya Foundation Inc. have announced the 10 finalists that will compete for the Best Short Film award at the 19th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.
The films, which were selected from a pool of 192 submissions, represent a diverse range of genres and styles and explore a variety of human experiences.
The 10 short film finalists of Cinemalaya 2023 are:
The competing short films tackle a myriad of human stories of different genres. These include family adventure, zombie tale, coming-of-age chronicles, LGBT narrative, and a documentary on horse caretakers, showcasing different techniques and approaches.
The indie films will be screened at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City from August 4 to 13, 2023. The winner of the Best Short Film award will receive a cash prize of Php150,000 and a Balanghai trophy.
Cinemalaya is an annual film festival that showcases the best of independent Filipino cinema. The festival was founded in 2005 with the goal of promoting and supporting Filipino filmmakers. The festival has since become one of the most prestigious film festivals in the Philippines, and has helped to launch the careers of many talented Filipino filmmakers.
