Over the weekend, what was usually a sight for sore eyes caused some eyebrows to raise instead as Netflix’s billboards promoting its upcoming series Trese appear to be vandalized with spray-painted scribbles that say “Siyudad namin ‘to!” and “Layas!”
Netflix posted the defaced billboards on Sunday, along with the caption: “”What kind of monster would do this??? If you see something, say something – we’re going to find out who did this.”
What’s more, netizens also posted “found footages” of grisly creatures ripping one billboard apart, with one of them even turning to look at the camera.
Across comment sections, netizens are still kicking around for an explanation, with the prevailing theory being it’s all a clever publicity stunt. Okay, that’s probably all it is, but that still doesn’t answer how in the hell they managed to climb fifty feet into the air, tear the crap out of the banners, and fly away like our worst nightmares.
But hey, that’s what the whole thing’s about — “Trese,” Netflix’s first original anime show, is based on a crime-horror comic book by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo. It’s set in Manila and deals with the ghastliest creatures from Philippine folklore who live in hiding among humans.
Trese premieres on Netflix on June 11.
