Ruru Madrid on “Black Rider” milestone: “Dasurv!”
Ruru Madrid continues to enjoy the success of his primetime series, “Black Rider.”
The action-drama series, which just entered its new season, recently snagged an international award. It took home a Bronze medal in the Entertainment Program: Drama category of the 2024 New York Film and TV Festivals.
Prior to the announcement, FreebieMNL spoke to Ruru during the show’s press conference for its second season, where he showed appreciation that “Black Rider” earned a nomination in an international award-giving body.
Ruru said, “Siyempre, sobrang nakakataba ng puso dahil lahat naman tayo, binubuhos natin ang lahat ng ating makakaya para mapaganda yung mga programang ginagawa natin at para mapansin hindi lamang dito sa ating bansa kung hindi sa New York, e, sobrang malaking achievement yun para sa aming lahat.
“Sa totoo lang, lahat ng pagod, lahat ng hirap… Siyempre, kapag pinapanood natin, parang ang dali lang pero sa totoo lang, yung paggawa nitong ‘Black Rider,’ kahit pagsama-samahin lahat ng mga shows na nagawa ko before, ganun siya kahirap.”
Ruru also showed appreciation for his co-stars and directors for their hardwork, which motivates them to do better in their work.
He continued, “Mahirap mag-mount ng action, pero napapadali ito kapag nagko-collaborate ang lahat at yun ang pinagmamalaki ko sa grupong ito, walang nagpapataasan, lahat pantay-pantay.
“Kumbaga, yun siguro yung sikreto kaya nangyayari lahat ng bagay, kaya nakakakuha ng ganitong klaseng achievement. Lalong nakakagana magtrabaho, lalong nakakaganang galingan pa lalo kasi yun nga, hindi lang siya dito sa bansa natin napapansin, e.
“Kaya we were very lucky na maging parte ng programang ito, mapabilang sa cast na napakahuhusay at of course, sa direksyon nina Direk Rommel [Penesa], produksyon ng Public Affairs, congratulations sa ating lahat. Dasurv!”
Ruru and his co-stars faced the press at an intimate press conference for the second season of “Black Rider” on April 16 at The Vibe Bar and Café, Quezon City.

“Hindi lang siya sa numbers”
Ruru is very proud of the outcome of their hard work for “Black Rider.”
He believes that the show’s success comes from how the goals of each part of the production—from the cast to the producers to the directors—are united.
With Ruru playing the titular role, he took it upon himself to set an example to his colleagues to bond and enjoy every taping day.
He explained, “Well, yung pagiging hands-on kasi, ako, ever since I started this series from the very beginning, alam ko sa sarili ko na ibubuhos ko lahat ng makakaya ko para mapaganda yung mga eksenang gagawin ko.
“Pero hindi lamang pagdating sa eksena yung magiging trabaho ko dito, kung hindi para maging united kaming lahat, ita-try ko hangga’t maaari, kahit na pagod kaming lahat, minsan nagpapakain kami sa set para magkaroon ng bonding, hindi lang sa mga co-actors ko but especially sa mga crew, sa lahat na maging isa kami, maging isa yung hangarin, isang layunin na tagumpay na gusto naming ma-achieve.”
“Black Rider” competes head-to-head with ABS-CBN’s “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” headlined by Coco Martin.
Ruru knows that competition is stiff in their timeslot but he knows that the achievement they have been getting isn’t just about the ratings.
He continued, “Sabi nga namin, hindi lang siya sa numbers, e. It’s not all about the ratings, di ba? Yung achievement is makukuha doon sa lahat ng matututunan namin habang ginagawa namin yung mga programang ito.
“Yun yung mga natututunan ko whenever I work with the action stars like Sir Jestoni Alarcon, Sir Raymond Bagatsing, at sa lahat ng cast actually, may mga natututunan ako everytime makakaeksena ko sila.
“So, yun for me yung achievement ng ‘Black Rider’ na habambuhay kong dadalhin.”
