Selena Gomez Gets Her First Latin Grammy Nomination

Selenators, rejoice! Selena Gomez just got her first-ever Latin Grammy nomination!

The Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences released the official list of nominees for the 2021 Latin Grammy Awards, and Selena’s first full-length Spanish single “De Una Vez” is nominated for the “Best Short Form Music Video” award. The song is part of Selena’s first Spanish EP “Revelación,” a project that was years in the making.

“This has been something I’ve wanted to do for 10 years, working on a Spanish project, because I’m so, so proud of my heritage, and just genuinely felt like I wanted this to happen,” she told Zane Lowe on Apple Music.

“Just with all the division in the world, there’s something about Latin music that globally just makes people feel things, you know?”

The 29-year-old singer-actress also opened up about her Mexican roots in a video played during the #Immigrad 2020 Virtual Commencement in May last year: “When my family came here from Mexico, they set into motion my American story, as well as theirs,” she said.

“I’m a proud third-generation American-Mexican, and my family’s journey and their sacrifices helped get me to where I am today.”

The 2021 Latin Grammy Awards will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on November 18, 2021.
