Doesn’t it feel awesome to see your childhood hero winning in life? According to Deadline, Canadian-American actor of The Mummy fame, Brendan Fraser, is set to join Leslie Grace in Warner Bros. and DC Films’ upcoming film Batgirl.

It should be noted that neither Warner Bros. nor DC Films have made the official announcement yet. However, sources reported that Fraser will be playing the supervillain Firefly in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film slated for 2022.

What’s official though is that Leslie Grace of In The Heights has been cast as the titular character of the film. Directors of Bad Boys for Life Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are helming the production of the superhero flick. The film will be released on HBO Max, marking one of the first major DC properties to debut exclusively on the streamer.

Details of the film have yet to be disclosed. However, it’s been announced that the movie’s superheroine will be Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon. In case you didn’t know, Gordon is the most established version of the Batgirl character and was first introduced in 1961 as Betty Kane.

The 52-year old actor is known for his iconic roles in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Some of his well-known projects include The Mummy and George of the Jungle. The actor left the acting scene after facing multiple surgeries and battling depression.

To his fans’ delight, Fraser has been staging his comeback in recent years. He recently landed the lead role in Darren Aronofsky’s next film The Whale. Plus, he’s been cast in a key role in revered filmmaker Martin Scorsese’s latest project, Killers of the Flower Moon. Fraser is slated to star alongside the ‘king of the world’ Leonardo DiCaprio, and living legend, Robert De Niro. He was also recently seen in Steven Soderbergh’s No Sudden Move.

Let’s hope the rumors are true. It’d be awesome to see Rick O’Connell in a butt-kicking role once again.
