Emma Corrin Comes Out as Queer

The Crown star Emma Corrin has recently come out as queer and shared what’s it been like on her queerness journey.

The actress, known for playing the late Princess Diana in the hugely popular historical drama The Crown, shared a photo of herself back in April in a Miu Miu wedding dress on Instagram and captioned it, “ur fave queer bride.”

In July, she also shared a photo of her in a chest binder, a material used by non-binary, trans, or gender-fluid individuals.

Though she didn’t exactly elaborate on her Instagram, the up-and-coming star did do an interview with ITV news about her gender identity.

“I think visibility is key with these things,” Corrin said. “I felt it because I think my journey’s been a long one, and I still got a way to go.”

“I think that we’re so used to defining ourselves and that’s the way, sadly, society works, is within these binaries,” she continued. “It’s taken me a long time to realize I exist somewhere in between, and I’m still not sure where that is yet.”

The 25-year-old also shared that it was daunting to come out through social media, but said that the responses she received from people were helpful.

“I wasn’t sure whether it was the right thing to do but the feedback from the people in the queer community has been wonderful,” she stated. “It’s something to be celebrated.”

On defining her gender identity, Corrin explained that she still has a long way to go.

“I’m still figuring it all out, and I think everyone is,” she said. “And that’s kind of the point is that there’s no fixed identity, especially for like people in the queer community. It’s going to be an ongoing journey, but I hope that sharing it helps people.”

Corrin currently stars in the play Anna X in Manchester, England and will also play the lead in the upcoming romantic drama My Policeman.
