Kim K Brings Pregnancy Bullying to Light

In the midst of the shocking documentary Framing Britney Spears, which detailed the immense scrutiny and bullying that pop star Britney Spears suffered at the hands of the media, Kim Kardashian had her own thoughts to share.

In an Instagram story posted last week, Kardashian said that she sympathized with Spears and recalled her own negative experiences with the media when she was pregnant with her eldest child North in 2013.

Kardashian, at the time, suffered from a pregnancy complication called preeclampsia. The condition caused her to gain 60lbs and deliver her baby a month early.

“I cried every single day over what was happening to my body mainly from the pressures of being constantly compared to what society considered a healthy pregnant person should look like — as well as being compared to Shamu the whale by the media,” Kardashian wrote in a lengthy Instagram story.

The model and beauty entrepreneur described feelings of insecurity, frustration, and embarrassment and, at one point, even detailed being unable to leave her house for months at a time because of the body shaming she had been receiving.

She urged those who were in “the business of shaming and bullying” to reconsider their path and choose kindness and compassion instead. “You just never fully know what someone is going through behind the scenes,” said the mother of four.

She then shared a series of tabloids printed at the time of her pregnancy, many of which did poke fun at the notion that Kardashian was “fat”.

One of the tabloids even compared her to Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge who was also pregnant at the time, with the headline reading “Kate the Waif vs Kim the Whale”.

Many others drew comparisons between Kardashian’s pregnant body to Shamu the whale, and often printed images of the Kardashian eating.

The documentary discussed the life and struggles of hugely popular singer Britney Spears, with special focus on the media’s ill-treatment of her and the conservatorship controlled by her father, Jamie Spears.

At the moment, Spears also urged others to avoid being too quick to judge and to realize that there is a person and a story behind the lens. “I am taking the time to learn and be a normal person,” she said. “I love simply enjoying the basics of everyday life!”
