McDonald’s Philippines Introduces Strawless Lids For Cold Drinks

McDonald’s Philippines has launched the use of strawless lids or sippy cup-style covers for their cold and iced beverages such as juice, soft drinks, iced tea, and iced coffee. The new packaging will replace the usual flat lids with holes in the middle for straws.

This move follows their policy to limit the distribution of straws to certain drinks only like the McFloat, Coffee Float, Milk Tea, and McFreeze.

“By testing these strawless lids, we aim to continue our journey to reduce waste. Through this change, we will be able [to] make strides in our waste reduction strategy, while ensuring that our consumers are able to enjoy their iced cold drinks along with their favorite McDonald’s meals, one less straw at a time,” McDonald’s Philippines Corporate Communications Head Adi Hernandez said.

The new drink packaging will be available for take-out, drive-thru, and delivery transactions. McDonald’s has already introduced it to certain Metro Manila stores, and aims to expand its use to more branches nationwide.

“We look forward to our customers’ positive response to this initiative and rolling this out to more stores in the country in the coming months,” Hernandez added.
