Here’s what you should know about Instagram Reels

(Source: Unsplash.com)

More than a year since it was first rolled out, Instagram Reels is finally in the country! As per PhilStarLife.com, Reels is basically Instagram’s own version of TikTok. Comprised of short to medium-length videos with music, filter, and various creative options, this feature allows users to create videos connected to their accounts.

If you want to explore Reels or get inspired for your own content, you can click the clapper button in the middle of your Instagram app. If you don’t see it on your app yet, you should update it.

There, short videos will appear automatically, and you can scroll all day, every day. You can also search for Reels via audio using Instagram’s search bar. Once clicked, a number of popular songs and sounds will appear that connects to the ongoing trends. The Explore page of the app also shows some public Reels that you might find interesting.

If you’re already on TikTok, you probably know how to make a Reel. If not, basically, you have to tap on the Reels option on the bottom of the Instagram Story Camera.

From there, a splash page will introduce you to the world of Reels. Once you click “accept,” the layout will look much like that of making an Instagram story, but with more creative tools.

You can add audio (aka music) to the video. You can also trim to clip to 15, 30, and 60 seconds. You can also adjust speed by making slo-mo and sped-up videos. Finally, you can also add filters and set a timer to when you want the audio to start when you’re recording. Just take note that you can’t take photos with the Reels toggle, only videos.

Once you’re done editing, you have the option to share the reel like a Story that lasts for only 24 hours, or like a regular post that will remain as a standard grid entry on your account. Have fun Reel-ing it in!
