How to Care for Your Nails

Many don’t know, but our nails are actually a good reflection of our overall health. With proper care and diligence, we can keep our nails nice and healthy.

Check out these few tips to get the strongest, best-looking nails.

Observe your diet

The food we eat definitely affects the quality of our nails. Food like lean meats (turkey, chicken, and beef), fruits and berries (strawberries, bananas, blueberries), and leafy greens (spinach, broccoli, and kale) are great providers of protein and nutrients; the more you keep a healthy diet, the stronger and shinier your nails will be!

Say goodbye to gel polish and acrylics

We hate to say it, but these types of nail art are greatly damaging to the nails. Because they’re so strong and stick so well, they can peel off layers of your actual nail and weaken them. If you must get them, make sure to take breaks in between to give your nails a rest.

Keep them short

Long nails are more prone to chipping, breakage, and snagging, which can be painful for you and super damaging to the nails. Trim your nails at a good length and don’t forget to file them! This will keep your nails strong and clean.

Moisturize your cuticles

Good moisturizer isn’t just for the hands — it can work for your nails too! Lather some oil or lotion onto your cuticles to make sure your nails are properly moisturized. Moisturizing will prevent cracking and keep your nails from becoming brittle .

Take supplements

Kill two birds with one stone with biotin, or vitamin B-7. This supplement works for both nails and hair, working to strengthen and grow them. However, biotin is water-soluble and not stored in the body, which means you’d have to take it as a daily supplement to realize the full effects.
