Everyone is Awesome Lego Set Comes Out on Pride Month

Pride month is just around the corner and for the first time ever, Lego is joining in on the celebration. The Everyone is Awesome set is a tribute to positivity and kindness in the community and will be available starting on June 1. It’s dedicated not just to the LGBTQIA+ community but to all the allies.

A Spectrum of Colors

The colorful set includes 11 monochrome Minifigures, each representing a color of the LGBTQIA+ flag, against a rainbow backdrop. The Minifigures have a matching hairpiece that showcases diversity within the community. Originally, there were only six colors in the Pride Flag, but it was revised to be inclusive of the queer and trans identities of black and brown people.

Welcome People from Different Backgrounds

Matthew Ashton, Vice President of Design at Lego,  designed Everyone is Awesome because he felt that society could be more supportive of one another and appreciate how unique each person is. “Being LGBTQIA+ myself, I knew I needed to step up to the plate and make a real statement about love and inclusivity, and generally spread some Lego love to everybody who needs it.” He hopes people become more welcoming to others, no matter their background.

Representation is Important

“I think by taking small steps and having products like Everyone is Awesome out there and people representing the LGBTQIA+ community, it allows everybody to see that things do get better over time and there is a place for everybody,” Ashton adds. Design-wise, the set is bold yet simplistic. It sends a powerful message and will hopefully bring joy to people’s lives.

There are a total of 364 pieces that can be built to “show that although we all different, we join together in a celebration of inclusivity and love,” as stated on their website. For $34.99, the Everyone is Awesome set includes 364 pieces that are recommended for ages 18+.
