Our bodies may have already adjusted to the new normal, but we can’t deny the toll our minds have taken after being deprived of any artistic and cultural stimulus. Answering modules and working from home is draining, and we can’t go anywhere to smell the figurative flowers and ease our brains.
In comes the National Museum with a solution of sorts: the #MuseumFromHome program.
In celebration of the National Museum’s 119th Foundation Day, they launched the #MuseumFromHome program as a way to bridge the gap that is people’s yearning for art amidst a persisting pandemic.
Through a 360-degree virtual tour of the nine galleries inside the National Museum of Fine Arts, audiences can navigate with the guiding arrows, take a closer look by clicking the artworks, and read the accompanying gallery text of each artwork. The intuitive controls also let you zoom in and out, stop and start the auto-rotation function, and change navigation mode.

As a bonus, you will be serenaded by the multi-awarded University of the Philippines Manila Chorale, as their performance of the Visayan love song “Usahay” plays in the background while you wander around the virtual museum.

The immersive and interactive museum tour was possible through the National Museum’s collaboration with the Museum Foundation of the Philippines through the latter’s Sulyap Museo: A Virtual Tour of Philippine Museums project. The production was shot by photographer Fung Yu, while the descriptive hotspots were care of the National Museum’s Fine Arts division.
