PSA: All EDSA buses will require Beep cards for payments starting October 1

Heads up, commute warriors: as announced by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday, September 28, the EDSA Busway System shall implement a “no Beep card, no entry” policy starting next month.

The swift notice is in accordance to the transportation ministry’s additional safety measures to reduce the spread of virus associated with traditional cash transactions inside public utility vehicles. This is also part of the ministry’s gradual move towards a fully-automated fare collection system.

So where can we get Beep cards?

Luckily, Beep cards are easy to acquire. You can buy a reloadable Beep card from any LRT-1, LRT-2, or MRT-3 stations, or in various Family Mart or Ministop branches in Metro Manila. You can also approach designated Beep kiosks located in bus stops along the EDSA Carousel route.

Beep cards are good to use for four months from purchase. These can be used to ride both the LRT and MRT lines, P2P buses that are part of the EDSA Busway System, and some modernized e-jeeps that are already plying Metro Manila roads.

You may also download the official Beep card app from the App Store or Google Play Store. This allows you to monitor your card’s balance, top up, and even earn points to redeem rewards.
