UP Diliman Reopens Academic Oval to the Public

In case you’ve gotten bored of your usual running or biking route, you might want to change things up and drop by the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman’s academic oval. The institution has re-opened the area to the public on Monday, November 15, and visitors of all ages are allowed to enter regardless of vaccination status.

Opening Hours

UP Diliman announced on its Facebook page last Friday that the academic oval in Quezon City will re-open to the public. The grounds were closed early this year in compliance with the protocols set by the IATF under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). Now, visitors are allowed on the campus between 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

What to do at the Academic Oval

Although the University oval is a popular spot for fitness enthusiasts, jogging and biking is not the only activity you can do here. Bring the family along for a breath of fresh air in the open spaces along University Avenue, Sunken Garden, and PAUW during the operating hours, or take your fur baby for a walk. Parties of 10 people or less are welcome in the area.

Reminders for Visitors

UPD reminds those who intend to visit the oval must wear a face mask and continue observing minimal health protocols. Visitors are also required to clean after themselves and dispose of their trash properly.

Bikers may pass by University Avenue, Jacinto, Lakandula, Quirino, Ma. Guererro, Laurel Avenue, Balagtas, and Magsaysay. However, there are still off-limits areas, such as Areas 1, 2, and 3, and other residential areas on the campus. A counterclockwise direction will be followed.

Also known as the Acad Oval, the area spans 2.2 kilometers and joins the University’s colleges from the main University Avenue.
