Thomas Haden Church “Heard Rumors” On Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 4” Possible Development

Thomas shared that if the film does happen, he would want to be in it

Actor Thomas Haden Church, who portrayed Flint Marko/Sandman in the 2007 film “Spider-Man 3,” recently revealed rumors about the potential involvement of director Sam Raimi in a fourth “Spider-Man” movie.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Thomas addressed the possibility of returning as Sandman in a future “Spider-Man” film. He mentioned, “There’s always been some kind of… I’ve heard rumors… that Sam Raimi was going to do another with Tobey, and if that happens, I would probably campaign to maybe at least do a cameo.”

There has been no official announcement from Marvel and Sony about a fourth “Spider-Man” film featuring Tobey Maguire.

Thomas first appeared as Flint Marko/Sandman in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 3.” He was alongside Harry Osborn and Venom as antagonists.

He later returned to voice the CG Sandman in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” with archive footage from “Spider-Man 3.” While Sandman has appeared in several animated “Spider-Man” series, Thomas did not voice the character in those instances.

The development of a fourth “Spider-Man” film began in 2007, following the success of “Spider-Man 3.” Sam Raimi was set to direct, with Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane Watson), and other cast members reprising their roles from the original trilogy. But, Sony canceled “Spider-Man 4” in 2010 after Raimi departed the project.

Sony rebooted the “Spider-Man” film series in 2012 with “The Amazing Spider-Man,” starring Andrew Garfield.

In 2016, Tom Holland took on the role of Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man when the character was integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “Captain America: Civil War.” The three iterations of Spider-Man, played by Maguire, Garfield, and Holland, united and teamed up in “No Way Home.”

While an official Maguire-led “Spider-Man 4” is not confirmed, Marvel Studios and Sony are working on another film with Tom Holland returning as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. The timeline for production remains unknown due to ongoing actors’ and writers’ strikes.

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy is available for streaming on Disney+.
