Take note, thrifters: Taytay tiangge has reopened (and they have an app too!)

With social distancing rules and work-from-home policies in effect, we barely have half a reason to leave home fully-dressed. But when did we ever need an excuse to overdo our outfits?

If this is how you think and you’ve missed the thrill of thrifting, listen to this: Taytay’s Mega tiangge is now back in business! As shared by a Facebook page, the deemed “Garments Capital of the Philippines” has been allowed to operate again after quarantine measures temporarily put it out of business early this year.

The infamous Taytay Mega Tiangge, also known as the IGPAI Garments Center, is open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM, although each kiosk’s operating hours may vary as they see fit. Shoppers are also required to fill out a Health Declaration Form and submit to temperature checks upon entering the center. They are also required to wear face masks and face shields at all times, as well as observe social distancing, which might be a challenge, given that there’s a great deal in every corner.

Just like the old days, you can score cheap and quality finds from stores that sell branded, imported, and wholesale apparel. According to experienced shoppers, the kiosks offer better deals during the weekdays compared to the weekends as there are fewer customers around.

Interested but can’t travel all the way to Taytay? Worry not — shoppers can also buy through their app! Just download the Taytay Tiangge Online app from the Google Play store, search for the item you want across hundreds of sellers, add to cart, and check-out just like you would in other marketplace apps. Welcome to the future, folks.

Ready to thrift? You can get to Taytay’s popular tiangge by taking public vehicles from Cubao or Shaw Boulevard-Crossing bound for Binangonan, or you can key in the location on Waze: Taytay Mega Tiangge.
