Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra Wins First Place In Vienna-Based World Orchestra Festival

The Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra won the gold award in the Youth Orchestra Category B of the World Orchestra Festival held from June 12 to 26, 2021.

140 orchestras from 33 different countries participated in the Vienna-based event which went online this year. Instead of performing live, participating orchestras were asked to submit videos of their performances from 2019 to 2020.

The Philippines’ premier youth orchestra’s winning entry was a video of their performance at the Youngsan Art Hall in Seoul, Korea in July 2019. Their performance included 3 movements from Dvorak’s Serenade in E.

The Pui Ching Middle School Macao String Orchestra won the silver medal, while the Cricket Chamber Orchestra from Canada and the Joven Promusica Orchestra from Spain won the bronze medal.

The Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra also previously participated in the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna where they won second place in 2017 and first place in 2018.
