Cinemalaya is setting up an outdoor cinema so you can watch films “under the stars”

Get set for a starry film festival this September!

The lockdown may have derailed this year’s Cinemalaya schedule for a moment, but the brains behind the long-running independent film festival seem to be rebounding well. For its 17th edition, Cinemalaya is bringing back Cinema Under the Stars, an outdoor cinema setting that will screen this year’s handpicked indie films and shorts.

Cinema Under the Stars will take place at the Liwasang Ulalim, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex this September 2 to 4, with daily screenings scheduled every 4 PM, 7 PM, and 9 PM. Tickets go for P250 per section and can be purchased through KTX.ph

Cinemalaya is yet to reveal the lineup of films for its alfresco run, but if its social media teases are any indication, we are still set for an amazing roster of mind-blowing, thought-provoking, and eye-opening films from local and foreign filmmakers as always. Films are sorted into different sections, so take note of your choice during your purchase!

The outdoor movie experience is just one of the options for cinephiles to see this year’s selection of films. For all the cautious movie connoisseurs, you can cozy up at home because movies have also been made available as pay-per-view picks over at KTX.ph from August to September. There are also a handful of free flicks up on the Cinemalaya Libre website for you to watch during your WFH downtimes.

Originally planned to be an August affair at its usual location in CCP Complex, the Cinemalaya had to pivot when news of another lockdown was announced. Nonetheless, the Cinemalaya showrunners aren’t new to the concept of gathering moviegoers in the great outdoors, as they already pulled off a “Cinema Under the Stars” gig back in 2019.
