“Squid Game”-related video content on the online video platform has reached over 17 billion views and 533 million engagements, taking over “Game of Thrones” with 16.9 billion views and 233 million engagements.

According to the content analytics firm Vobile, these numbers are based on the 131 thousand “Squid Game” videos and 420 thousand “Game of Thrones” videos uploaded to YouTube.

“The staggering viewership comes from numerous types of video content, including official trailers and clips from the series, fan recreations of iconic moments, real-world challenges inspired by the plot, and even narration of user-generated video games based on the property (found on services like Roblox),” a Variety report read.

The majority of the views come from the “Recreation” category with 32%, followed by “Video Game” with 20%, “Real Life Challenge” with 11%, and “Show Footage” with 10%. The rest of the views come from the “Other” video category.

“In ten years looking at YouTube, we’ve never seen anything quite like this,” Jared Naylor, Vobile’s Vice President of Audience Development, told Variety.

“Squid Game” director Hwang Dong-Hyuk confirmed just last week that the hit thriller series is coming back for season two. He said that the next episodes will show more of Gi-Hun trying to “do something for the world.”

“There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently,” he said.
