Seems like the “Good Life” is no more.
Last Friday on February 19, it was announced that reality star Kim Kardashian would be filing for divorce from music mogul husband, Kanye West. The news was confirmed by a court clerk for the Los Angeles Superior Court.
The divorce follows after almost 7 years of marriage and four kids. Kardashian is seeking joint custody of North, Psalm, Chicago, and Saint and is citing a prenuptial agreement for the division of assets.
Unfortunately, the divorce does not come as a shock considering the pair’s tumultuous recent past.
Early this year, it was reported that the high-profile couple had been living apart for a while, with Kardashian and the children residing in California and West staying at his ranch in Wyoming.
This came after West’s unsuccessful bid at the presidency in July 2020, which led to a series of politically charged and questionable statements on Twitter. He likened his situation with his wife and Kris (Kardashian’s mother) to the movie Get Out (where black characters are “trapped” by white people), and referred to the Kardashian-Jenner matriarch as “Kris Jong Un”.
In response to the public backlash to West’s Twitter tirades, Kardashian posted on social media to remind others that West suffers from bipolar disorder.
“I understand Kanye is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions at times can cause strong opinions and emotions,” she said in an Instagram story posted in July.
“He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words some times do not align with his intentions.”
This will be Kardashian’s third divorce and West’s first. Kardashian split from Damon Thomas and Kris Humphries in 2004 and 2011, respectively.
