Know the Facts

If one of the causes of your flying anxiety is that the plane might suddenly malfunction and crash, it might help to look at the statistics. Data shows that flying is safer than driving, with 1 fatal accident occurring per 16 million flights. In contrast, the chances of dying in a car accident are around 1 in 114.

Choosing the Right Seat

While others would gladly pay extra to get a window seat, you’re better off picking an aisle seat to provide you with greater visible space. This way, you aren’t crammed into a corner and won’t get nauseated from seeing how high up in the air you are.

Pack Comfort Items

Whether or not you have flying anxiety, packing comfort items is a must when traveling. You’ll want to bring a travel pillow, an eye mask, a scarf that doubles as a blanket, and maybe even some vitamins. Ensuring you’re comfortable during the flight will help you feel more at ease.

Block out the Noise

Using noise-canceling headphones can help you block out the anxiety-inducing flying noises. Consider investing in high-quality headphones and bring an extra pair of earplugs. Download your go-to podcast or playlist before boarding to at least have something to keep you entertained.

Redirect Your Thoughts

Instead of focusing on the flight, how about you redirect your thoughts towards the destination you’re heading to. What are you looking forward to when you get there? Turn your fear into feelings of excitement.

Determine what frightens you and learn how to cope with your anxiety. Knowing what triggers you makes it easier to deal with it.
