Jasmine Curtis-Smith Admits Adjusting To Doing Camp In “Asawa Ng Asawa Ko”

Jasmine admits doing campy scenes once made her ask: “Ha, talaga? Ito yung linya ko?”

Jasmine Curtis-Smith is happy that her comeback series, “Asawa Ng Asawa Ko,” is doing well in terms of ratings and online views.

In fact, with the show receiving warm reception from the Kapuso audience, there is a possibility that the series might be extended until July.

Jasmine shared the good news during a one-on-one interview with FreebieMNL at the Aivee Clinic x Revive’s Belotero launch on May 9 at Grand Hyatt Hotel.

She exclaimed, “Well, actually, I just got a text yesterday, ‘Please, huwag muna kayo maglagay ng schedule hanggang July kung kaya,’ so fingers crossed.

Bakit di nila isagad hanggang December ano? Willing! Willing ako!

But admittedly, Jasmine had to make a lot of adjustments before taking on the role of Cristy, the first wife of Jordan (Rayver Cruz) who is always in a fight with his second wife, Shaira (Liezel Lopez).

Not only because it took almost three years before she accepted a TV project, but because it was her first time portraying a mother and doing a campy series.

She shared, “I’m very happy kasi maingay itong pagbalik and kakaiba siya from what I usually do. Usually, remake or something a little bit yung pa-Taglish pa nga, e. Ito, talagang Tagalog.

Parang nakakatuwa kasi ang saya rin pala for the first time na, I’ve never been a mom, I’ve never been a wife, iba yung maturity na kailangan kong hanapin.

“[And] ang campy niya! At kailangan kong tanggapin yun, otherwise hindi ko mapaninindigan yung story. Kasi, at first, parang, ‘Ha, talaga? Ito yung linya ko?’ Parang cringe kasi hindi ako sanay sa ganyang klaseng storytelling.

“But, eventually, I loved the way it’s being written now and dahil nakakapitan na siya ng tao, it’s easier for me to know kung ano yung heart ng kwento para sa kanila.”

In fact, she now finds doing camp—complete with catfights here and there—fun and interesting to do.

“It’s fun kasi I’m now like, ‘Ano kaya after nito?’ Now that I portrayed a mom and itong theme ng kabitan din, this is new to me kasi dati nga, family-themed or yung ‘Descendants of the Sun.’ It’s fun to venture into camp and venture into an afternoon theme na nangyari lang na nalagay sa primetime.

Ang saya kasi nakikita namin paano umakyat yung viewership from the first day up to now, naging consistent na siya sa viewership number niya and very grateful kasi yung mga tao, damang-dama na yung inis nila, kahit ayaw na nilang manood, hindi nila mabitawan, nagtu-tune in pa rin.”

Speaking of catfights, Jasmine is also all praises for her co-star, Liezel Lopez, whom she shares the screen in sampalan and awayan scenes.

“Actually, it’s very fun to work with her kasi very intuitive siya, masaya siyang kabatuhan ng linya, ang dami niyang iniisip na ad lib and natural lang yung arte.

“So, kahit ilagay mo siya sa pang-villain or pang-bestfriend or any other role, parang she has that instinct agad na alam niya yung role kaya ang saya niya kabatuhan ng linya.

Ang bilis niyang kumalas sa role kaya kapag kailangang serious agad, hindi ko muna siya pinapansin kasi natatawa ako sa chikahan namin! Ganun siyang tao.

Hindi awkward, wala ring distance which is a good thing kasi kami yung laging nagbabangayan.”

“Asawa Ng Asawa Ko,” which also stars Martin del Rosario, Gina Alajar, Joem Bascon, Elizabeth Oropesa, and Sparkle artists Billie Hakenson, Jeniffer Maravilla, Crystal Paras, Luis Hontiveros, Kim de Leon, and Bruce Roeland, airs from Monday to Thursday on GMA Prime.
