Julia: “Feeling ko ‘di tayo mahihirapan sa pag-portray ng mga characters natin”
Julia Barretto shares that her reunion film “Un/Happy For You” with ex-lover Joshua Garcia will draw inspiration from their real-life experiences—making it a “painful and hopefully a healing” film for many viewers.
As announced via a New Movie Alert event on Wednesday, April 25, 2024, on-screen tandem JoshLia has revived their pairing—years since their last film “Block Z ” premiered in 2020.
Helmed by director Petersen Vargas under Star Cinema and VIVA Films, the movie promises to deliver encompassing lessons on pain, past wounds, and the eventual path to recovery.
Setting initial expectations, Julia says in an interview, “I didn’t expect it to be super far from probably what we had all experienced in lives, not just him [Joshua] and I.
“Syempre but it’s a very general feeling that everyone goes through. There are some things that still linger so it would be a painful and hopefully a healing movie for a lot of people.”
In a seeming affirmation of her experiences in love and losses, Julia adds that their portrayal for the film will come a little less challenging already.
She says, “Nasaktan din naman ako, I’m pretty sure ikaw din nasaktan ka rin sa buhay and tayo bilang actors, feeling ko ‘di tayo mahihirapan sa pag-portray ng mga characters natin.”
Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto on working with each other again
Joshua and Julia’s relationship was only for a moment, having dated in 2017 only for them to separate two years later. After their parting, they admitted that a lot has changed—especially on how they matured separately over the years.
Julia, for her part, deems the project as the perfect avenue for their reunion. As she puts it, “It almost felt like maybe it was already the right time, it’s the right material. We’re both in a good place in our life. I’m happy na magkakatrabaho tayo uli.”
With a four-year gap from their last project together, Joshua admits that they are still trying to re-learn and familiarize each other. This comes with hoping that eventually, they will get to re-build their on-screen chemistry.
He says, “Kinakapa pa rin namin yung isa’t isa kahit ang tagal na namin nagkatrabaho—baby steps—darating din kami roon sa shoot day namin.“
The well-received tandem of JoshLia rakes in a good amount of fans, established well by their notable films “Vince, Kath, and James,” “Love You To The Stars and Back,” “Unexpectedly Yours,” and “I Love You, Hater.”
Joshua and Julia are both in a relationship—Joshua with French-Filipina golfer Emilienne Vigier, while Julia is currently dating Gerald Anderson.
