Coco Martin comments on being the replacement of Aljur Abrenica in “Apag”
Coco Martin admits that it was awkward for him to do a kissing scene with rumored girlfriend Julia Montes.
Martin and Montes are cast as an onscreen couple in the upcoming film “Pola,” which is directed by Brillante Mendoza.
FreebieMNL had the chance to ask Martin about his kissing scene with Montes during the March 28, 2023 press conference of his film “Apag” which was held at SM North Edsa The Block.
“Ibang-iba ang pelikula namin na iyon,” says Martin with a laugh.
How did he feel while shooting his kissing scene with Julia Montes?
“Siyempre, nakakahiya. Nahihiya kami,” says the actor who has worked with Montes in several TV shows and movies in the past.
How would Coco Martin compare his kissing scene with Julia Montes in the past and their kissing scene now?
“Siyempre, nakakahiya pa rin. Nakakahiya kasi may ibang tao. But siyempre dahil work, naitawid naman.“

Coco comments on being second choice to Aljur Abrenica
Coco Martin does not mind being the second choice in the film “Apag,” which is one of the eight official entries of the 1st Summer Metro Manila Film Festival. The summer edition of MMFF 2023 will run from April 8-18, 2023 in cinemas nationwide.
Aljur Abrenica was supposed to star in this crime drama film. However, Abrenica backed out because he was nervous about doing the Kapampangan lines in this movie set in Pampanga.
During the general press conference, Coco admits he feels happy about being part of this project even though he was not the first choice.
“Sobrang saya at sobrang proud. Kasi ako, kung pu-pwede lang ako mag-prisinta kung may pelikula si Direk Brillante. Talagang naiinggit ako tuwing may ginagawa siyang pelikula na hindi ako part. Naiinggit ako kasi alam ko kung ano yung hirap, ano yung talento na binubuhos dun sa pelikula na iyon. ‘Tapos yung proseso at yung saya ng company habang ginagawa yun, alam na alam ko yun.
“Hindi ako nahihiya kahit hindi man ako yung naisip ni Direk Dante sa project na ito. Kahit nung time na yun… kita niyo naman, putok na putok ako, ang taba-taba ko! Pero sabi ko nga, kahit sa kalagitnaan ng trabaho namin ng ‘Ang Probinsyano’ sa Ilocos…From Ilocos, umuwi ako ‘tapos diretso kami ng shooting.
“Ganun ko vina-value si Direk Brillante at yung proyekto na ginagawa niya everytime na may project siya. Kaya sobrang grateful ako na natuloy ako sa project na ito at nandito kami ngayon sa harapan ninyo.”

In this film, Martin’s character figures in a vehicular accident that kills a tricycle driver. His father, played by Senator Lito Lapid, decides to sacrifice himself in place of his son. Mendoza directed “Apag,” which is produced by Center Stage Productions and the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society.
