“Ang dami pa rin palang may hindi alam na kumakanta ako,” Derrick says about his “It’s Showtime” appearance
Kapuso actor Derrick Monasterio was surprised that his guest appearance on the ABS-CBN noontime program “It’s Showtime” trended on social media.
The actor dubbed as the “Sparkle Debonair” was one of the first guests of the show when it started airing on GMA-7’s noontime slot earlier this month.
When Derrick spoke to FreebieMNL during the Q&A of “G! LU” media conference on April 17 at KAO Manila, he was surprised by the viewers’ reaction especially when they found out that he is a singer.
He said, “Nagulat nga ako nag-trend ako, hindi ko alam, pero ang masasabi ko lang is ang dami pa rin palang may hindi alam na kumakanta ako.”

Over the recent years, Derrick had already released an album and several singles under GMA Music. He also showcases his singing talent on the Kapuso Sunday noontime variety show “All-Out Sundays.”
Even then, Derrick is happy with the entry of “It’s Showtime” to GMA-7’s programming as it gives them a new platform to showcase their talents apart from acting.
Derrick continued, “So, nakakatuwa kasi ‘Showtime’ gave me a new platform din and iba rin talaga yung viewers nila, yung iba first time lang ako makita ng mga Solid Kapamilya talaga.
“Nakakatuwa kasi nakakapag-guest na kami doon para mapakita namin yung kakulitan namin and they’re very welcoming, para kaming magkakakilala ng matagal. Si kuya Vhong, nakaka-basketball ko pero the others, para talagang family.”
Now that the network war is no longer a barrier to actors promoting projects from different networks, Derrick thinks it will no longer be a problem if ever they decide to invite their fans to watch “G! LU.”
“Actually, I don’t think they are that strict in promoting Kapuso shows sa ‘Showtime’ kasi Miss Vice [Ganda] invited me to, ‘Oh, promote your All-Out Sundays.’
“So, I think it’s okay kasi yun na nga e, wala na tayong mga network wars ngayon, e. United na tayo so sana pwede na, at saka yun nga, this is for the whole movie industry naman, lahat makikinabang.”
Derrick is one of the lead stars of ALV Films’ “G! LU” with Kapuso actors David Licauco, Teejay Marquez, and Ruru Madrid, Kapatid artist Kiko Estrada, and Kapamilya talent Enzo Pineda.
Derrick is also geared for the upcoming finale of GMA Afternoon Prime series “Makiling” with real-life girlfriend Elle Villanueva.
