MTRCB says “It’s Showtime violated Section 3 of Presidential Decree No. 1986”
The Movie Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) summons the production team of ABS-CBN Entertainment’s noontime variety show “It’s Showtime” due to the scenes aired on the July 25, 2023 episode of the program.
In a press release issued by MTRCB on Sunday, July 30, 2023, the team of “It’s Showtime” was called to testify on Monday, July 31, 2023.
The statement said that there were “concerning scenes that portrayed alleged indecent acts by hosts Vice Ganda and Ion Perez during the variety show’s ‘Isip Bata’ segment.”
The statement detailed that the scene is in violation of “Section 3 (c) Presidential Decree No. 1986.”
The scene in question
The scene in question, which aired on July 25, showed Vice Ganda and his real-life partner, Ion Perez, on the show’s segment, “Isip Bata.”
The portion talked about which food is best consumed using the finger. Among the choices are chocolate, junk food, and cake.
The hosts had to demonstrate how to consume each food choice: Jugs Jugueta for the chocolate, Ryan Bang for the junk food, and Ion for the cake.
At one point in the segment, Ion went near Vice to give him some cake icing. Vice then demonstrated how to eat the icing while looking at Ion, acting kilig similar to how it is depicted in commercials.
Jhong Hilario then teased Vice and called him “Goldilocks” because of his blonde and curly hairstyle.
At press time, MTRCB or “It’s Showtime” has not issued any statement yet after the summon.
MTRCB’s current chair is Lala Sotto, the daughter of Helen Gamboa and Tito Sotto, one of the pioneer hosts of TV5’s “E.A.T,” one of the rival programs of “It’s Showtime.”
