Priscilla Meirelles Clears Marital Tension With John Estrada

“Do you change the house or do you fix the light? We try to fix the light first.”

Just a few weeks fresh from a marital controversy, Miss Earth 2004 Priscilla Meirelles has yet again voiced sentiments over her relationship with husband John Estrada—but now on lighter terms.

The 39-year-old beauty queen has seemingly cleared the tension with her husband as she talks about communication and forgiveness. She opened this up in an interview with ABS-CBN News’ Mario Dumaual during the Miss Earth Philippines preliminaries.

When asked about how the relationship is going, she says, “Actually, we never really had any major, let’s say… I cannot say that it wasn’t well.” Meirelles then acknowledges the “rough patches” that spouses naturally undertake but insinuates the ever-continuing compromise that must be taken to fix the issues.

All the more, Meirelles likens marriages to a broken light in what seems to be an allegory of forgiveness. She states, “If it comes to a point where you have a house and one of the lights is broken, do you change the house or do you fix the light? We try to fix the light first. This is basically what’s happening.”

She also shares the efforts Estrada and she have been doing for their relationship. “We are talking. There is no major happening right now. I think the most important part is that we respect each other and we respect each other’s space. All is good,” she says.

Meirelles counts what she learned and hopes Estrada learned something just as much. As she puts it, “ He knows how I am and when it comes to the things that I believe and my principles. So for me, family is very important.”

Was there really a third party?

In March, the beauty titlist echoed her marital woes to Instagram, hinting at Estrada’s alleged infidelity that Meirelles directly attested to. Various names have been dragged into the issue including Estrada’s former-wife Janice De Belen and a Cebu-based vlogger named Chiyo Dela Vega.

Two weeks after the heated speculations, the couple was then seen spending time in Cebu with their daughter Anechka and other cast members of ABS-CBN’s “Batang Quiapo.” Estrada even shared a photograph of the family vacation all while professing his devotion to Meirelles.

Mereilles, on the other hand, expressed that they were blessed to go on a family trip. She says, “Actually, it was scheduled three months ago. There is no reason to not push through with that.”
